The First Day Thoughts

My first day of class I feel energized. This class makes me feel excited. I want to travel to Gambia and create meals. I want to be creative and have fun.

My base knowledge on maternal and child health is limited but I have always had this sense of female empowerment. I went to an all-girls high school in Louisville where girl power and leadership was the backbone of my education. Thus, I am thoroughly intrigued to learn more about maternal and child health.

Presentation Academy: My own slice of paradise
Class of 2022

However, my biggest concern is the looming regress and imprisonment of women's healthcare and medical rights within this new presidential administration. Quite frankly, it scares the hell out of me being a young woman that is about to be thrust into a chaotic political climate, where my rights could be stripped away at any moment.

Which is why, I want to learn more about maternal and child health, so I can be an advocate for myself and the voiceless. I feel my world is about to flipped upside down in a time where I should be celebrating my degree and taking the next step into adulthood, so being prepared is my number one priority. I am here to take the term "academic weapon" literally and use it as my defense mechanism.

  1. So Presentation Academy was your high school? I have not heard of it, but I profoundly support all-girl education. I went to a mostly-female college (Mary Washington in Virginia). It had just started to go co-ed while I was there. There were a few great guys, but honestly, they took away from our experience. I 100% agree with your concerns for women in the coming years. We must resist.

    1. Yes, Presentation Academy was my high school. It is right on 4th Street in downtown Louisville. I had an absolute great education there. Which is why I will keep resisting, as you said, until we have healthcare equality.
