Women's Sports and March Madness

    March Madness has fallen upon us and like me, millions of others fill out brackets. I enjoy using the "MM Live" app to fill out a bracket and invite my friends and family into a group to start a friendly little competition. This year my friend and I have a wager that whoever has the better bracket gets a $10 Starbucks gift card. I always enjoy filling a bracket out in hopes of guessing the winner. 

    However, this year after filling out the men's bracket, I wanted to fill out a women's bracket too. I scoured the MM Live app and found nothing. The app does not have women's basketball listed. This is one of the many examples where women's sports, in this instance basketball, does not get the recognition it deserves. 

    Just recently women's sports have started to get more recognition and larger audiences, but the MM Live app is just another reminder we are not there yet. 

    Women's sports have made forward strides, but women's health have made backwards strides. Yet, these areas still have so much more progress to go. Women are so powerful, and I am biased I know, but why are we looked at as lesser than and unqualified? I figured in my lifetime I would see progress but so far, I have seen regression.

The First Day Thoughts

1/8/25  The First Day Thoughts      My first day of class I feel energized. This class makes me feel excited. I want to travel to Gambia and create meals. I want to be creative and have fun.       My base knowledge on maternal and child health is limited but I have always had this sense of female empowerment. I went to an all-girls high school in Louisville where girl power and leadership was the backbone of my education. Thus, I am thoroughly intrigued to learn more about maternal and child health.  Presentation Academy: My own slice of paradise Class of 2022      However, my biggest concern is the looming regress and imprisonment of women's healthcare and medical rights within this new presidential administration. Resist

 1/27/25    Resist      Right now, I am feeling stressed. Maternal health and women's reproductive health is becoming under government control. Men are making reproductive rights rules and regulations without a single woman in the room. DEI is going away. Men are coming to the forefront in every aspect of society (government, workforce, etc.). Billionaires, fetuses, and white men are more important than anything else in this world.       I have grown up in a feminist driven household. My mom runs the roost. She told me at age 3, that she was the president of the US, and I believed her. Woman and female power are under siege.  We must resist for the next 4 years.  Resistance is key.
